QUICK FACTS – UAE

The United Arab Emirates was formed on 2 December 1971 and now comprises the sheikhdoms of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman.

The President is His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is also the ruler of the Emirates’ capital Abu Dhabi. The Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the UAE Supreme Council is His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qassimi.

TOTAL AREA 83,600 sq/km.

Abu Dhabi represents over 80% of the total.

GEOGRAPHY.  The country is located in the northeast part of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered to the south and west by Saudi Arabia and to the north and cast by Oman. The UAE is within easy reach of Europe and the Far East with a flying time of 7 to 8 hours in either direction.
